Denver, Colorado is considered a semi-arid area of the country with cold winters. Their growing season is May-Sept.

USDA Gardening Zone 5, Sunset Zone 2

The Botanical Garden is located downtown on York street. You will park in a lot just across the street from the entrance. To your immediate left is a children's Secret Path, up ahead to your right is a tropical conservatory, you can also choose to veer left down a cobblestone path of gardens or go straight to see the gardens ahead.

There are more than 20 different individual gardens within this 100 acre park. Photos on this page were taken in the months of September and May.

Some of the highlights include the:

Lilac Garden-I specifically visited again in May to view Denver's outstanding Lilac Garden where over 70 different varieties of lilacs (genus Syringa) are located. It is a heavenly scent in the spring. If only I could plant one of these in Phoenix.

Tropical Conservatory that is home to tropical and sub-tropical plants including Hibiscus, Bananas, and Coffee plants. They have a cool two story model of a banyan tree where kids can get a bird's eye view of the conservatory.

Japanese Garden-beautiful lush asian plants and water features.

Monet Garden- bulbs, annuals and perennials brings color in fall and spring to this garden inspired by the famous painter.
