Grow in highly ammended soil here in Phoenix gardens. The Gardenia scent is heavenly. We planted ours with a 50/50 mixture of native soil and organic compost. Gardenias are native to tropical and sub tropical regions so are use to high humidity areas and are often grown as container plants in Phoenix. They enjoy acidic soil, thus if you are going to try and grow this plant here the soil needs to be ammended.
