Salvia is a great desert plant from the mint family. It loves the sun and can take the drought.
The Salvia sylvestris cultivator 'Blue Hill' is what we have on the east side of our house. The first year I was a little disappointed they didn't grow much. I really wasn't sure if they would could back the next year, but they did and were prettier than ever.
This compact Salvia doesn't get very tall, only around 15" but the pretty blue spikes are very attractive come April. They look best when planted in masses or along a border.
